Alte Liebe
Alte Liebe is German for Old Love. It’s an old wooden pier in Cuxhaven. In 1733 the city sank three old ships on this place. As the tides created land over the ship wrecks they build this Pier on this place. One of the sank ships was called Liebe (Love). So they called the pier alte Liebe (old Love). Today it is not used any more as a pier. It became a tourist attraction and symbol of the city of Cuxhaven also because all the transport ships pass this point very close as they enter the elbe canal on their way to Hamburg Harbour. Through the long history of sailors in this area this place remains as an historical and abstract place in time. I investigated this place through the winter season for many times. I watched the different tides and the stormy weather. All this lead me to those pictures in which I try to transport the peace and melancholy of a place that once was important and was build in the rough mud flat of the German North Sea.
