Campus Elysius
The Belarusian Humanities Lyceum is the only secondary school in Minsk in which lessons are held exclusively in Belarusian. They write and publish their own schoolbooks.
After they were forced to shut down in 2003 Belarusian authorities, by decree of president Alexander Lukaschenko, they went underground and eventually continued teaching in a private house on the outskirts of Minsk.
The school´s aim has been to preserve and promote native Belarusian culture, language and humanities. Students are encouraged to freedom of thought and discussion. Quite different from the 3067 official secondary Belarusian schools which have a strict ideology-driven curriculum.
To protect the identity of the current students I chose to photographically document the space in which this partisan school of thought is presently given a home.
